Staff Spotlight

Without our hard-working, dedicated staff Couples would be just another hotel. However, our employees make the difference by asserting every effort to accommodate guests and give them an unforgettable experience. If you have a fond memory that involves our staff members, feel free to let us know by posting a message on the Couples message board so our own staff as well as other guests, can recognize their commitment. In this newsletter’s Staff Spotlight we applaud Una, Elkie, Carlton and Kevin.

Una McIntosh
Couples Sans Souci

Since 1972, Una has been making Couples Sans Souci a comfortable and relaxing ambiance for guests as a room attendant. As a senior member of the Couples team, this Hanover, Jamaica native, referred to by some as “Sixteen,” enjoys being a leader and role model for her younger co-workers. Through her example, others in her area learn the art of total guest satisfaction. She also loves meeting new guests every week from all over the world. Outside of work, Una adores going to the nearby beautiful beaches the island has to offer. A proud Jamaican, she loves eating ackee & saltfish, a national delicacy; however, her favorite place to visit is the United States. In her 35 years at the resort, no experience was as memorable as the time when she met royalty. She once served as the room attendant for Prince Charles. Una loves staying close to her family by visiting them as often as possible. There is one family member who she misses most, her fiancé; which Una said being able to see him would “make her life complete.”

Elkie Carolyn Coke-Herbert
Couples Negril

Elkie has been serving guests with a smile for six years at Couples Negril. She loves the friendliness of her colleagues, the variety of the hotel guests, and the relaxing environment of the resort.  Her position allows her to get to know many of the guests who stay at the hotel, so having them return to the hotel is a special treat for her. Born in Savanna-La-Mar, Jamaica, this 28-year-old cocktail waitress loves eating jerk pork and yam, listening to the heavenly sounds of gospel music, and watching horror movies. When not at work, Elkie likes watching television, especially with her daughter who she spends time with as much as possible. If she could have dinner with anybody, she would undoubtedly choose her favorite movie star, the handsome and talented Denzel Washington.

Carlton Ian Davis
Couples Ocho Rios

Carlton keeps the guests at Couples Ocho Rios content by serving them with a smile and making sure their stomachs are never empty. For two years, he has been a team leader in the kitchen of the Bayside Restaurant. His leadership and guidance keeps the kitchen staff organized, resulting in a delicious meal and impeccable service for all patrons, but cooking on the live station for the guests is what he enjoys most. His culinary skills are so commendable once a party of ten guests called him to their table to compliment him on an excellent meal. Even when Carlton is away from the kitchen, he always carries it around with him. At home, he likes to watch the Food Network, where he can learn new recipes and techniques. When he is not working or watching cooking shows, you can find Carlton playing dominoes with friends. You might also find him watching action and karate films or listening to Garnet Silk. As a participant in the hospitality industry, Carlton greatly admires the Minister of Tourism, Aloun N’Dombet Assamba, and would jump at the chance to have dinner with her.

Kevin Hines
Couples Swept Away

Four years have flown by since Kevin joined the Couples team as Front Desk Guest Service Agent. Kevin has been checking guests in and out of Couples Swept Away as well as booking reservations and confirming guests’ flights. Better known as ‘Papa Kev,’  this Jamaican native recalls his most memorable experience when he took a honeymoon couple to their room and the woman burst into tears of joy declaring it was the most beautiful room she had ever seen. His favorite part about working at Couples Resorts is his team members and some of his other favorites include the movie “Diary of a Mad Black Woman”, eating jerk pork, listening to the music of Richie Spice, and visiting St. Ann. When not at work, Kevin spends his free time playing soccer and listening to reggae. If he were stranded on a deserted island and could only bring three items, he would bring a Jamaican woman, Red Stripe beer and the Holy Bible.
