In this newsletter’s Staff Spotlight we applaud Delano, Sheril, Jason, and Sherona.
Couples Swept Away
Two years have flown by since Delano joined Couples Resorts as Entertainment Coordinator. Better known as “Big D”, Delano ensures guests at Swept Away are always entertained and have an unforgettable experience while vacationing. His favorite part about working at Couples Resorts is getting the opportunity to meet new people on a daily basis. One of his most memorable guest experiences was with a couple who had gotten in an argument the night before their wedding. Big D sat and spoke with both of them; as a result, Delano ended up being best man for the wedding that almost did not happen! At 24 years old, this Montego Bay native enjoys his shut-eye and watching all kinds of sports. A few of his favorite things include pork, listening to Michael Jackson, watching his favorite movie, Grease and visiting Florida. When asked if he could have dinner with any person in the world, living or deceased, Big D chose Halle Berry, who he believes is one of the most beautiful women on the planet and every man’s dream.
Couples Negril
Known as “Tito” to her friends, this 23-year-old has been a part of the Couples Resorts team for the past six and a half years. Born in Green Island, Jamaica, Sheril’s job as a Kitchen Team Leader includes assisting the Garde Manager in preparing salads and appetizers. Her favorite part about working at Couples Resorts is the friendliness of coworkers, which results in a happy environment. When asked what her most memorable guest experience is, she reminisces about one day, three years ago, when she met two friends while working the buffet line at the Sushi Station. She persuaded them to try sushi for the first time and said “they enjoyed it tremendously and have been coming back to Couples Resorts ever since to try my sushi.” Some of Tito’s favorite things are watching her favorite movie “Son of Pink Panther,” listening to R. Kelly, eating curried chicken with white rice or yellow yams with steamed snapper and visiting Havana, Cuba. When not at work, Sheril takes pleasure in watching TV, listening to music, and reading books by James Patterson and Mary Higgins-Clarke. If she were stranded on a deserted island and could only bring three items; they would be her boyfriend, food and water.
Couples Ocho Rios
Jason has been a part of the staff at Couples Resorts for the past four years. Also known as “Friday,” this 24-year-old was born in Geddes Town, St. Mary, Jamaica. His responsibilities as a Houseman include making sure each guest room and the hotel’s corridors are impeccable and transporting linen to and from the laundry room. Jason’s favorite part of working at Couples Resorts is meeting people from other countries and learning things while sharing his own experiences. His most memorable guest experience is when a guest taught him how to play pool - a game which he continues to enjoy. His favorite foods are ackee and salt fish and dumplings and he loves listening to the music of Beres Hammond. His favorite movie is Ghost and favorite place to visit is New York City. When Friday is not at work, he spends his time watching football and playing cricket. If Jason could have dinner with any person in the world, living or deceased, it would have to be with his mother because she is his biggest inspiration and is the main reason why he is who he is today.
Couples Sans Souci
With a career in the hotel industry, Sherona has pursued her love of people and her quest for providing the best in hospitality for Couples Resorts. This native of St. Mary, Jamaica moved to Ocho Rios, Jamaica to become Social Director for Couples Resorts. “Bones,” as some refer to her, has been part of the Couples staff for the past year and ensures that all guests’ expectations are met, as well as plans and organizes daily activities. Meeting people from different ethnic backgrounds is just one of the things she loves about working at Couples. Her most memorable guest experience was meeting two couples, which were both cancer survivors that saved each other. Sherona spends her free time listening to music, especially Whitney Houston, reading, watching television, and going out in Ocho Rios, her favorite place. She loves to eat ackee and salt fish and watch her favorite movie, Love and Basketball. When asked if she were stranded on a deserted island and could only bring three things, Sherona would bring a man, food and music.
