Staff Spotlight
We debuted our Staff Spotlight column in the Summer Newsletter and now it’s time to introduce you to a new batch of Couples employees. This time we’re featuring four top personalities, since we have a fourth resort on board, Couples Sans Souci. Read on to see some of Couples’ staff members favorite memories and find out a bit about their lives in Jamaica.

Leary Randy Thomas (aka Courtney), Couples Ocho Rios
Behind the scenes there’s a whole team of people that keep Couples Resorts pristine and sparkling and let’s be honest, sometimes they don’t get the credit they deserve. So from Couples Ocho Rios we introduce Mr. Leary Randy Thomas, better known as Courtney to his friends. He has been a Sanitation Cleaner at Couples Ocho Rios for two years now, working to ensure the proper cleaning, sanitizing and preparation of all hotel equipment and areas. His favorite part about the job is doing it well and “wow-ing” the guests. Courtney takes his job above and beyond, recounting one experience in which he assisted a guest who felt ill in getting to the nurse. He stayed with her until she was checked, brought dinner to her room and then the next morning made sure she had breakfast. Talk about personal service. When not at work, you might find Courtney singing in his church choir in his hometown of Clonmel, St. Mary, at home with a good book or watching his favorite movie, Bad Boys. He also makes time to visit with sick family and friends who are homebound. Send him off to a deserted island and just make sure he has plenty of water and lobster…and his girlfriend.

Shalmon Carlyle Dunkley, Couples Negril
Making a connection with guests is one of the key things that Couples Resorts’ staff pride themselves on, and what better way to do that then by being the Guest Relations Coordinator. Meet
Shalmon Carlyle Dunkley, aka Mr. Couples. Born July 14, 1983,
Shalmon joined Couples Resorts nine months ago, but it didn’t take long before he noticed the team spirit and camaraderie at Couples Negril, not to mention the way it was transformed into making the emotional connection with guests. Speaking of emotional connections, his favorite Couples memory to date was meeting a guest at the resort, Mr. Tom Lansford. Tom is better known as TommyWommy to the
Couples
message board community and Shalmon had quite a bit of correspondence with him even before he arrived at the resort. But it’s not a surprise that
Shalmon made an internet connection, as he’s quite the ‘techie’ - Guest Relations Coordinator by day, internet junkie and web page creator by night. He even wants a book on technology to help him pass the time on his deserted island, along with food and water of course.

Phillip Ambrosley, Couples Swept Away
Next up in our Staff Spotlight is another “behind the scenes” employee, Mr. Phillip Ambrosley. Nicknamed Pegasus, he is the resident Grounds Attendant at Couples Swept Away. Responsible for the resort’s landscaping, Phillip has been keeping everything lush and green at CSA for the past five years. However, he doesn’t only tend to the gardens; on occasion he tends to guests medical needs as well! He is known to cure a nasty sunburn with fresh aloe vera from the onsite greenhouse. Phillip also puts his green thumb to work at his home in Westmoreland, Jamaica where he enjoys taking care of his own gardens and also helping his wife around the house. Phillip could probably grow his own food if he were to be stranded on an island, but given the choice of three items, he just wants the basics - food, water and shelter please.

Martin George Smith, Couples Sans Souci
What better way to welcome Couples Sans Souci into the Staff Spotlight then with the man who welcomes people everyday, Bellman Martin George Smith. For two years Smith has been greeting guests upon their arrival, making sure their luggage arrives promptly and safely to their rooms and assisting guests in getting to their rooms. While he enjoys meeting and greeting all of our guests, his most memorable experience was greeting one guest in particular, Johnny Cochran. Smith was born in Orcabessa, St. Mary and still resides there today, but in his spare time you might catch him near Couples sister properties in Negril, as Rick’s Café in Negril is one of his favorite places to visit. If you strand him on an island, give him his family, the bible and music and he’ll survive.
